In 2019, the Museum of Science and Industry engaged HPZS to update the 20 year old Pioneer Zephyr exhibit to create a more dynamic visitor experience. Working closely with the exhibit designer and the MSI Exhibits Team, HPZS visually encapsulated the existing space by permanently closing the existing fire shutters between the exhibit space and the adjacent garage. New projection screens and equipment were installed to create the suggestion of train movement.
The platform was redesigned to provide a clearer and more encompassing view of the train from the main entrance lobby. Installation of a chairlift at the north end of the platform facilitates wheelchair movement completely around the train, and ramp access to the individual cars was installed the openings of each car. New lighting, and a new paint and floor color scheme enhance the refreshed space and place greater emphasis on the newly restored train exhibit.
