MSI Giant Dome Theater

In response to the changes in movie projection technology, the Museum of Science and Industry replaced the original 20 year old OmniMAX film projection equipment with new high quality digital projectors. This required the careful integration of the equipment into the originally designed and unused projection room above and behind the seating area, which had to be structurally evaluated for the new projector load.

The glass wall front of the projection room was reconfigured, and new OptiClear glazing was installed for the greatest possible light transmission in order to provide the highest quality projected image. Mechanical system upgrades were required to offset the additional heat generated by the new equipment, and the seating immediately below the projection room had to be reconfigured to accommodate the new projection angles of the images.
