April Hughes, AIA, former graduate of Cohort 17 of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program has worked collaboratively to forge a strategic partnership between the program and AIA Chicago in order to create a platform for AEC professionals to focus on transformative leadership and business skill building, components often missing from the professional education of practitioners.

AIA Chicago Receives AIA Trust Grant for Inaugural Leadership Program

A grant sponsored by The AIA Trust, Victor O. Schinnerer & Company, Inc. and the CNA Insurance Companies in the amount of $3,000 was awarded to AIA Chicago in April of 2017. The grant will be used to support AIA Chicago transFORM, an interdisciplinary interactive program focused on tactical leadership and business skill building.

About AIA Chicago transFORM

AIA Chicago transFORM is an interdisciplinary, interactive series focused on skill building for the business of architecture. The program centers on transformational leadership, utilizing strategic, tactical and operational skill sets designed to affect change in an architect's individual career and within their firm.

The curriculum, consisting of monthly modules, will arm “high potential” professionals, including executives and emerging professionals, with the business skills necessary to succeed in the profession by integrating real-world competencies with leadership fundamentals.

Every module will have a lens, focused on providing a financial vocabulary, culture + team engagement, communication, personal leadership assessment including social style, presentation skill-building as well as entrepreneurial tools for architects for immediate use within both large and small firms. Each session will focus on both new content and the application of previously taught skills. All participants will be expected to report on how they have applied learned skills to affect change, allowing their peers to share feedback about that applied growth.
